Les Mis and My Life

"Empty chairs at empty tables, now my friends are dead and gone..."

I've always wanted an association with Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I saw the musical, and I cried like there was no tomorrow. I listen to the soundtrack at least every three days. I read the book, both abridged and unabridged. I didn't think my association would be in this way.

We don't sit at the table anymore. Our meals are laid at the counter. There is one less birthday to celebrate. There is one less room occupied. There are more moments wishing that I had lived in them with you rather than standing apart.

Happy birthday, Lauren. College had better be treating you well.
