Beauty

Last week in English, we were asked a question-
What is Beauty?

I thought of old people. Their skin, though wrinkly, is natural. I love it so much. Their eyes of such light. Completely the opposite as to what we are lead to believe today.

We're told to have our faces slathered in make-up.
If make-up wasn't the color of your skin tone,
Imagine looking like this.

Be as skinny as you can.
Hide your face with make-up.
Wear the least amount of fabric as possible.
Do drugs to make you perfect.
Be like the people in the magazines-a perfection you will never amount to.

My new friend, Jake, he asked me why girls wear make-up in the first place.
It's the pressure of society.
It works on some girls, but not every girl.
But most of the time, does it work?
Yes.
I am a victim of the multi-billion dollar
beauty industry.

Everyday I wish I wasn't.

Mirrors are everywhere. They reflect what you see-or think you see.
I looked at the mirror the other day, because they're everywhere.
And a thought popped into my head as to why I didn't look "nice."
Don't you hate it when the multi-billion dollar beauty industry convinces your reflection that you don't look "right?"

I am happy with who I am.
