What Uncle Bill Taught Me

Utah High School Shakespeare Competition has had a fair run in my life. Freshman to Senior year, I have been surrounded by fellow thespians who share a love of advanced literature.

And now it is over.

What I learned:
Inside jokes stick around

I will always be proud of where I come from

Sometimes a dress fits simply because it zips

Beauty isn't made by hair or makeup.
*for 2013 Shakespeare, I wasn't allowed to wear makeup and had to put pomade in my hair to make it greasy.

People are what make a moment

Never let stereotypes stop acceptance

Men are at sometimes the master of their fate, not in the stars-we are the underlings.

Freshman year, a sometimes friend borrowed my phone to text a friend. Senior year, I was careless enough to lose my phone for two days in a theatre. Freshman year, I helped my junior high take sweepstakes. Senior year, I helped my junior high take sweepstakes. Freshman year, I didn't place in scenes. I didn't care because I didn't understand. Senior year, I didn't place in scenes. I understood what placing was, but my level of success was met with a far greater award than some certificate with my name on it.

Of course I want to go back. Memories of suu campus run through my mind. Secret stories, inside jokes, unrequited love. A belief in myself. All memories. Though a belief in myself will stick around.

My name is Talia Ruth. I am a fantastic actress. I can sing well. I am a hard worker. I can do anything.
Shakespeare taught me I could.
